Day in the Life Content Guidance

When creating authentic, engaging videos that offer a glimpse into a typical day at Chapman University, producing content that showcases the many student experiences can be pivotal. Whether you’re in class, hanging out with friends, or exploring campus, we want to see your Chapman experience through your eyes.

Plan Your Story

Think of your video as a mini-vlog. Consider writing a loose script about what an average day looks like for you. Think about this:

  • What makes your day uniquely “you”?
  • Which moments highlight your Chapman experience?
  • What “insider tips” would you share with your fellow classmates or prospective students?
  • What do you want viewers to feel or take away?

Suggested flow:

  1. Morning: Getting ready, breakfast, heading to class
  1. Midday: In class, campus walks, lunch/coffee break
  1. Afternoon: Clubs, work, study, or downtime
  1. Evening/Weekends: Social life, events, or reflection

Filming Tips

  • Vertical video (9×16) – Intended platform is Reels, TikTok, or Shorts
  • Bright & clear: Use natural light or well-lit spaces
  • Steady shots: Two hands, tripod, or resting your phone
  • Mix clips: Talking-to-camera, campus life, details (coffee, books, walking shots)
  • Don’t be afraid to shoot too much footage. This gives you options.
  • Sound matters: Reduce background noise; You can also record a voiceover afterwards, too.
  • Music: Use copyright-free or university-approved tracks

Keep it Natural

  • Speak naturally — like you’re chatting with a friend
  • Authentic, warm moments > perfection
  • Show a variety of campus life: classes, friends, events, quiet moments
  • Make sure anyone you film is comfortable being on camera

Length

  • 1–3 minutes
  • Trim long pauses or repetitive clips
